These ceramic turtle beads were handmade by Peruvian crafts people. Molds were used to shape the clay for the turtles, which were fired, painted an eggshell white and glazed, then fired a second time, for a true ceramic hardness.
The beads are about 12 mm tall, 15 mm across the front, 22 mm front to back. The holes are about 2 mm in diameter. They run horizontally through the bodies, under the shells. |
